How to Choose the Best Facial for Your Skin Type

When you book a facial, you want to see results. Whether you want glowing skin, fewer pimples, or a brighter complexion, it is completely reasonable to expect these things (and more!) from your facial.

You should choose the most suitable treatment for your needs. If you don’t choose the right facial for your particular skin type, there’s a good chance you will make things worse.

Avoid irritating your skin, and get glowing and vibrant skin by choosing the right facial for your skin type.

What is Your Skin Type?

First things first, you should determine what your skin type is before booking facial treatments

Most people fall under one of these categories:

  1. Sensitive skin: You have sensitive skin if your skin reacts strongly to new products. Reactions might include pimples, rashes, heat, tightness, or itching.
  2. Dry skin: Tends to become drier in the presence of external stimuli like dry weather. You also experience tight, rough, or cracked skin.
  3. Oily skin: Oily skin is characterized by overactive sebaceous glands, which leave the skin looking shiny. Oily skin is associated with acne.
  4. Combination: If your skin alternates between dry and oily, you have combination skin. You also might find that certain areas of your face are more oily, while other areas are dry (the T-zone is often more oily).

What are the Different Types of Facials?

In general, you’ll find that most facials are characterized by what skincare concerns the facial addresses. For instance, you can get a facial that specifically targets acne, a facial that addresses skin dullness, or a general facial to improve the overall look and feel of your skin.

There are also more specialized types of facials, including microdermabrasion , chemical peels, IPL, and skin tightening.

What Does Each Facial Do?

The ideal facial addresses specific needs for different skin types. For example, try our Glow Facial Treatment to reduce the signs of aging and achieve a vibrant glow. Alternatively, a facial specifically designed for acne will address pimples and breakouts.

If you’re interested in advanced facials, here’s a brief overview of what they do:

  1. Chemical peels: Remove the top layer of skin using a chemical peel solution. This allows new skin to grow, which often improves skin texture.
  2. Microdermabrasion: Using a special tool with an abrasive surface, we gently remove the top layer of skin to reveal brighter, more vibrant skin.
  3. IPL: Also known as a photofacial, this is a light therapy used to treat wrinkles, discoloration, and uneven texture.
  4. Skin tightening: Using targeted energy to heat the skin, this procedure helps to ramp up collagen production. Over time, this makes skin look younger and plumper.

What to Consider When Choosing a Facial?

The most significant consideration to keep in mind when choosing a facial is your specific needs. If you notice that your skin is sensitive, an intense chemical peel won’t be right for you. More gentle treatment is a better match for your skin type.

In addition, we always like to remind clients that budget, time, and availability are also essential to keep in mind. For instance, if you don’t want to commit a lot of time or money to facials, you might not want to try one of the advanced treatments. These treatments are more expensive and require multiple sessions to get desired results.

If you’re just diving into the world of facial treatments, it might be best to start with a basic facial to see how your skin reacts. From there, you can begin experimenting with more advanced treatments.
